How it works

What the bruxism appliance picker weighs up

Three quick questions narrow our bruxism and occlusal appliances down to a shortlist to discuss — based on how severe the grinding is, the main aim of the appliance, and what matters most for the patient.

    Mild, moderate or severe grinding and clenching. Severe cases rule out the softer options and favour an extra-thickness soft-hard or a hard splint.

    Goal

    Protecting the teeth from wear, relieving jaw pain, headaches or TMD, balancing the occlusion, or deprogramming the muscles with an anterior contact splint.

  3. 3

    Priority

    Comfort and easy adaptation, a balance of comfort and durability, or maximum durability with a rigid surface.

Can suggest: a soft nightguard, soft-hard or extra-thickness dual-laminate, a hard Michigan / Tanner splint, a B-Splint or DAR-AL anterior deprogrammer, or a thin Zendura A wear guard.
